8th International Theatre Universiade
Event date: May 18, 2012 - June 3, 2012
at Serres (Greece)
The Municipal Theatre of Serres, in its desire to create institutional events of national interest and international importance has held since 2004 till today 7 Theatre Universiades, which as such have been a celebration of cooperation and promotion of domestic and European student theater.
Indeed, both the successive variations of urban social structures, and the global crisis the world faces today everywhere except in arts has led the world's theater and people in search of modern forms of expression, bearing in mind to respond in its own way to local and important issues, as well as issues concerning the humanity in its whole, favoring the enhancement and the dissemination of theatrical art as a means of individual and collective expression of mainly young people
During these theatrical meetings, held and organised in Serres with the support of the National Committee of UNESCO and the International Theatre Institute, students from Greek universities and student groups from European Universities in Spain, Romania, France, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Serbia and Germany took part, while the overall program included various performances, lectures given by internationally renown personalities of the theater, and demonstration of technical skills and theatrical exhibitions of photographs and posters were organased. This major initiative of the Theatre of Serres has now become an important event for the city and the region of a great cultural importance and has been funded for years by the EU funds and especially the NSRF.
With the certainty that the World Universiade Theatre Universiade( annual student theatrical meetin) contributes significantly to the enhancement and the dissemination of theatrical art as a means of individual and collective expression and communication of young people in Greece and abroad we are preparing the 8th International Theatre Universiade to be held in the city of Serres from May 18 to June 3, 2012 . this major event will be attended byh Greek and international participants and a lot of important international personalities will help in the organization of the festival, which will also have the support of the International Theatre Institute.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Municipal Theater of Serres, by means of NSRF, undertakes the responsibility to transfer groups from abroad by air to Thessaloniki and from there by bus tor Serres and back and will also undertake the accommodation and the food costs for three (3) days.
Necessary and inviolable condition of participation of each group is the number of members not to exceed a total of 15 people.
Those interested can contact us via email: to submit their application, details of the show, cast, rehearsal photos, a few words about the project and the writer, not later than March 20, 2012. The 8th International Theatre Universiade will be held from May 18 to June 3, 2012. Because the number of groups that can participate is specific and limited applications will be considered according to the date of the registration of each group.
Knowing the unflagging interest of the Greek and the international university community in theater and in culture in general and with the belief that this kind of major events, such as the International University Theatre, can contribute positively to the development of the inter-state relations in today's difficult European economic situation we strongly believe that this event is necessary in order for young people to express themselves on important issues, we are looking forward to your applications.
With friendly greetings
The art director of the Municipality Theatre of Serres

FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE LONDRINA – FILO 2012
Event date: June 8, 2012 - June 30, 2012
at Londrina (Brasil)

KO Festival of Performance
Event date: July 6, 2012 - August 5, 2012
at Amherst (MA) (United States)
Each year the performances at Ko are curated on a theme that we think will entertain, provoke and inspire our audiences! In 2012 we’re investigating aging, a process that evokes a gamut of feelings – from trepidation to celebration. The shows are by a diverse group of artists who are coming to us from San Francisco; NYC; New Jersey; Portland, OR; Putney, VT/El Salvador – & right here in Amherst. All original works, created by the people who perform them & their teams of collaborators.
Many audience members enrich their experience at Ko by staying for the discussions that follow every performance. We use the show as a lens to help us discuss our season theme. The discussion is yes, artist/audience — but here in Amherst, famous for being the town “where only the ‘h’ is silent” — post-shows quickly become opportunities for community dialogue. There are other special events & ways for you to participate.
